We hear: “The job of an environmental expert is mainly to fill in spreadsheets that we’re not sure will be read”.
It’s a caricature. But there is a better use for an expertise that is still too rare and whose raison d’être is decarbonation.
For us environmental experts, enlarged accounting saves counting while increasing the number and reliability of carbon measurements to underpin our expertise. It values the carbon avoided by our partners and allows us to share it with them.
It’s up to us to help the organisations we work with to experiment with enlarged accounting and to optimise money and decarbonation at the same time.
